Background
Ecom Engine, an established SaaS company with nearly 20 years in the market, serves Amazon sellers through two primary products: FeedbackFive for managing feedback and reviews, and RestockPro for inventory management. With a mature product suite, Ecom Engine sought growth beyond its saturated feedback and niche inventory management sectors. The company aimed to expand into analytics to enhance their product offerings but lacked the in-house expertise needed for a successful implementation.
Challenges
- Mature Market and Limited Growth Potential: Existing products had reached market saturation, leaving few avenues for further expansion.
- Lack of Analytics Expertise: The team had no experience with analytics tools, creating an overwhelming landscape of choices.
- Need for Integration with Existing Infrastructure: The new solution had to align with Ecom Engine’s current infrastructure and leverage existing team skills to avoid steep learning curves.
Solutions
Ecom Engine partnered with RTS to guide the move into analytics. The engagement began with RTS analyzing the company’s infrastructure and understanding their expertise and objectives. RTS conducted a proof of concept (POC), introducing Ecom Engine to Azure Data Explorer (ADX), an analytics tool unfamiliar to them but suitable for their needs. RTS demonstrated how ADX could ingest and process their data effectively, providing architecture recommendations and a roadmap for decision-making, complete with reference materials and detailed considerations.

The engagement with RTS proved highly beneficial. While Ecom Engine ultimately opted for Power BI over the initially suggested visualization tool, the extensive documentation and expert advice provided by RTS enabled informed decision-making and problem-solving. The POC allowed the team to create their first report, which presented initial challenges but ultimately led to more streamlined and efficient reporting processes. By year’s end, Ecom Engine had successfully developed six customer-facing reports with only a small team of two-and-a-half members focused on analytics.

The professionalism, adaptability, and deep expertise of RTS were key factors that validated the investment and set a benchmark for the value of external consultancy.
