WEX Inc. (NYSE: WEX) provides credit and payment processing across three lines of business — North America Fleet, Over the Road, and Corporate Payments — through its proprietary Salesforce-based platform. Since October 2021, RTS Labs has embedded senior Salesforce engineers directly into WEX's Enterprise Application team, co-developing the Digital Credit Application across all three lines and supporting the parallel projects (Risk Platform, Notifi, FALUI, NHUI) that have grown around it. Five years, nineteen+ SOWs, one consistent partnership model.

WEX’s Enterprise Application team owns the Digital Credit Application (DCA) — the workflow that takes commercial fleet operators, owner-operators, and corporate payments customers through credit qualification and onboarding. The team needed sustained Salesforce delivery capacity that could integrate cleanly with WEX’s existing engineering platform, navigate the complexity of three distinct lines of business (NAF, OTR, CPS), and support the parallel projects (Risk Platform, Notifi, FALUI, NHUI) that emerged around it.
Hiring senior Salesforce engineers at scale was slow; contracting one-off resources didn’t match the team’s velocity. WEX needed a partnership model — engineers who’d embed for the long haul, ramp once, and stay aligned with WEX’s roadmap as scope shifted quarter over quarter.
NAF (North America Fleet), OTR (Over the Road), and CPS (Corporate Payments) each have distinct workflows, regulatory profiles, and customer-facing UIs. The Digital Credit Application had to serve all three from the same platform without forcing every customer into the same flow.
Hiring senior Salesforce engineers is slow and competitive. Generic staff augmentation rarely matches the quality of an engineer who’s been embedded in the codebase for a year. WEX needed long-term embed quality without the long-term hiring cycle.
Risk Platform, Notifi, FALUI, NHUI — all needed sustained delivery alongside DCA. A staff aug contractor who rolled off mid-project meant restarting the ramp on the next one. The team needed engineers who’d carry context across projects.
Since October 2021, RTS Labs has provided senior Salesforce developers who embed directly into WEX’s Enterprise Application team — not as staff augmentation, but as long-term co-developers. The engagement scales through quarterly SOWs (now on SOW19 for Q1/Q2 2026), with 40-hour-per-week senior Salesforce resources integrating into the broader WEX team and shipping on WEX’s engineering platform. Work spans declarative and programmatic Salesforce development (Apex, VisualForce, Lightning Framework), API integrations with customer credit and partner systems, unit tests, and QA — all on WEX’s existing infrastructure with WEX’s security and acceptance criteria.
Senior RTS Labs Salesforce developers ship both declarative (Lightning App Builder, Flow, Process Builder) and programmatic (Apex, VisualForce, Lightning Web Components) work on WEX's existing Salesforce platform. Code lives in WEX's repos, follows WEX's review process, and integrates with WEX's CI/CD — there is no separate RTS environment.
Built integrations with WEX's customer credit APIs and partner APIs across all three lines of business — NAF (North America Fleet), OTR (Over the Road), and CPS (Corporate Payments). Each line has its own regulatory profile, partner ecosystem, and underwriting workflow; the integration layer handles all three from the same platform.
Created and implemented unit tests and quality assurance tests for every shipped feature. Each release passes both RTS internal review and WEX's acceptance criteria before going to production. WEX's security requirements apply to every commit; nothing ships outside WEX's existing engineering process.
RTS engineers integrate directly into the broader WEX team — attending standups, owning Jira tickets alongside WEX engineers, participating in technical design reviews. Ramp-up happens once at the start of the engagement; turnover is rare. The result: WEX gets senior Salesforce velocity without permanent headcount, and RTS engineers gain deep domain knowledge that compounds across SOWs.
Slow path to senior Salesforce capacity through traditional hiring
Staff augmentation contractors required re-ramp every quarter
Parallel projects (DCA, Risk Platform, Notifi, FALUI, NHUI) competing for the same limited bench
Knowledge silos when contractors rolled off mid-project
Embedded senior Salesforce engineers ship alongside WEX's team
Quarterly SOWs scale capacity up or down without re-onboarding
Same engineers across SOWs — zero ramp-up between quarters
Continuous knowledge investment that compounds with each SOW
